About this piece
Vegetable-tanned leather and solid brass
Our first order was for a woman in Donegal who wanted something for her whippet's collar that would not jingle. We still use her measurements.
We cut these from the same hide our belts come from, bevel the edges, burnish them with gum arabic, and stamp the profile using a heated brass die.
The leather starts pale and goes honey, then chestnut, then almost black at the edges. That is the point.

- The leather is unfinished on purpose — it will darken where you handle it. A little beeswax once a year keeps it supple.

Better as it ages
Six months in and the tan has gone a proper honey colour, exactly as the description said. The stamp is still crisp. It is on a bag I use daily.

Bought four for the family
One each. My father carries his everywhere, which he has never done with anything. The brass has started to dull in a way that looks right.
